Remember when I had a mouse problem?  Heh.  That was kind of funny.  In hindsight.

One more mouse out of the house.  This poor little fellow got caught in the trap.  Thank God, the super awesome most wonderful roommate in the world was once again around to take care of it.  He investigated the "snap", he disposed of the trap and even walked it all the way downstairs and out to the dumpster at my request.  I never looked at it.  I've been lobbying for him to move out, but now I want him to stay until we are mouse free.

It occurs to me that if/when we move to the city, we'll be dealing with rats and not mice.  Perhaps I should consider myself lucky.  Perhaps I should stay in the 'burbs.

There is another mouse.  He is in the stove.  My husband is attempting to cook him.  If he leaves a mouse corpse in the stove, I think that is grounds for divorce.  Kill me now.

The mouse is gone! 

It was the best possible outcome for all parties involved.  The mouse had gotten quite brazen and made several appearances after my initial confirmed spotting a few days ago.  This morning, my eagle eyed son spotted him sitting smack dab in the middle of his play room as I was carrying him through the kitchen.  My husband tried to catch it, but it escaped.  Next, he ran across the dining room, skidded into the front door and took refuge in the shoe closet.  My husband was napping at that point and there was no way I was going to try to go after it myself.  As I was tidying in the bedroom a short time later, he ran under the closed door and took refuge under the dresser.

Enter the dashing, wonderful roommate!  I will never, ever say an ill word about our roommate again.  He bravely faced down the deadly rodent (okay, okay, a relatively small field mouse) that was still hiding under the dresser.  He chased it into the bathroom where he had it cornered and then managed to scoop it up in an empty Glendfidditch canister.  He's taken it to humanely release it into the wilds of Baltimore City where it will probably join a little mousy gang or something.  Perhaps he is happily frolicking in an abandoned lot at this very moment.  Hurrah!

Now we just have to hope there was only one.  *shudder*

Y'all, that damn mouse just ran right out in front of me.  TWICE. 

I resorted to baiting and setting the old school, wooden, snap the neck traps.  Sh*t, I just saw it again and I screamed and flew out of my chair.  I put on a pair of my husband's old shoes (I have no idea why that is making me feel better) and just banged my son's tambourine four or five times.  I'm completely flipping out.  I'm home all by myself.  My husband and son are at a cook-out.  I would leave, but our car's transmission is about to give out (like I need another expense right this moment).

How long should I give the traps a chance to work before calling a pest control specialist???

Home, now.  Traps are empty, Bluetooth is a bitch, had a nice time and that's about it.

We leave for the beach tomorrow.  I'm taking the laptop, so I might be posting if I figure out how to do the whole iBook, Bluetooth, modem, cell phone thing.  Time will tell.

The traps remain empty (and unbaited, as I'm still ambigious in my role of big bad mouse killer).  I'm kind of leery leaving them out while we're gone.  I told my husband to check the traps, but he's not so great at the household duties and well, who wants to come back to a week-old dead mouse?  Hmm? 

We're leaving bright and early in the morning and I still have to do at least one load of laundry and finish packing.  Um, so I better get to it.  Bye!

After agonizing over whether or not to buy traps, my best chum convinced me I should and promised she would stick around to help me set them.  We had plans for dinner and my flip-flop broke on the way to pick her up.  Rather than run back home to change shoes, I decided to just pop into Target to buy some new shoes and since I was already in there, get some pest control.  The glue traps were definitely out (thanks, Pea) so I picked up these weird plastic traps that are safer for kids and supposedly make it easier to dispose of the mouse.  I say supposedly, because my traps have yet to catch a mouse.

You don't bait the plastic traps and I wonder if that's why they were unsuccessful?  I spent the whole night horrorified that I was going to hear the snap of the trap.  I even dreamed of showers of tiny mouse turds raining down on me in my sleep.  Other dreams featured finding a colony of hundreds living in my closet.  I'm not sure whether I was relieved this morning to find the empty traps (no disposal to worry about, no guilt) or disappointed.  I mean, if the traps are empty then I still have a damn mouse in here don't I?

My friend, who is really great about tolerating my various freak-outs, studiously inspected the droppings I showed her.  She even touched one.  With her finger.  *shudder*  She seems to think I have one mouse, not the previously suspected horde and a small one at that.  My husband still thinks I'm hallucinatory and imagining the mouse I saw and the scrabbling sounds I heard.  Maybe.  But I'm definitely not imagining the droppings.  There is a mouse in the house.  It might be time to break out the old school traps.
